Neurology Department Recruitment

Department of Neurology’s Aggressive Recruitment Agenda Launched Jordan Search Consultants’ High Volume, Retained Search Service

Situation Analysis

Department faced with aggressive recruitment agenda, a limited budget, and no dedicated recruitment department.

The Challenges

Before hiring Jordan Search Consultants, the department relied solely on ancillary staff and the University’s human resources department for all recruitment functions. Outsourcing recruitment required a new way of thinking and operating for the department. In addition, the plan to double the department’s size with a group of highly-specialized faculty members and advanced practitioners in a tight market, within a 2-year period, presented several challenges.

The Solution

As part of Jordan Search Consultants’ process, corporate culture was assessed both within the department and within the University in an effort to deliver candidates who would be successful and productive in the system. The team partnered with department leaders and staff to build on the existing database and recruitment foundations, and developed a strategic recruiting partnership to achieve faculty staffing goals. Faculty and staff formerly involved in recruitment were freed to focus on their core responsibilities. In addition, Jordan Search Consultants initiated consistent branding/messaging in all sourcing efforts and continuously targeted both passive and active neurologists across all subspecialties to meet the department’s ambitious growth plans. Two meetings per month were scheduled to keep the lines of communication open and all parties accountable. Most importantly, a customized contract was developed to meet the client’s staffing goals within a specific recruiting budget.

The Results

Within 20 months, the Department of Neurology had doubled in size (with 11 placements) in accordance with their timing and strategic growth plans. Because there were no additional placement fees for physicians or advanced practitioners, and all sourcing activities were included in Jordan Search Consultants’ monthly retainer, the department saved 40% over traditional recruitment costs. Additionally, because candidates were uniquely vetted before interviews took place, fewer and more qualified candidates were interviewed. This reduced the organization’s interview budget by almost half. Not only were growth objectives achieved, but a centralized, streamlined approach to recruitment was also created. Jordan Search Consultants’ customized and targeted methodology established a reliable, proven recruitment process that benefited both the Department of Neurology and prospective candidates.

“I came to know Jordan Search Consultants when they recruited me for the Chair position. I knew their process and turned to them when I needed to significantly expand the department. They do a thorough job of vetting applicants for tangible and intangible qualifications and so are able to present a number of viable candidates for each opening.”
