Following an extensive national search by Jordan Search Consultants, Dr. John Flack, MD, MPH, will join the SIU School of Medicine and SIU HealthCare as Professor and Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine in May of this year.
Dr. Flack stood out as the ideal person to lead the department. His vision and leadership will enable him to build on the department’s proven strengths and lead its outstanding faculty to even greater levels of accomplishment.
Dr. Flack is currently Professor of Medicine and Professor of Physiology at the Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, where he was chair of the Department of Internal Medicine for 8 years. At Wayne State, he served as the founding director of the Division of Translational Research and Clinical Epidemiology (TRaCE) and was Principal Investigator of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS)-funded Center for Urban Health. Dr. Flack is an American Society of Hypertension (ASH)-certified specialist in clinical hypertension and serves as the Vice President of the ASH Hypertension Specialist Board.
Dr. Flack has special interest and expertise in the development of clinical translational research programs, the clinical epidemiology and treatment of hypertension, the transformation of clinical practice for quality, equity and financial performance, and the development of embedded educational systems within clinical practices. He is an active researcher, most recently in device-based treatment of severe, uncontrolled resistant hypertension, and serves on several NIH and American Heart Association scientific peer-review panels. He is an Associate Editor of the journal CardioRenal Medicine and is also a former member of the FDA Cardiorenal Advisory panel.
